Rhythmic gymnastics is a unique and artistic sport that blends gymnastics, dance, acrobatics, and ballet, emphasizing extreme body flexibility and hand-eye coordination. Athletes use various apparatus, including rope, ball, hoop, clubs, and ribbon, to perform their routines.

  •  Components: The sport integrates elements of flexibility, strength, and grace, requiring athletes to demonstrate both technical skill and artistic expression.

  •  Performance Settings: Competitors can perform individually or in groups, showcasing their routines to music and often in coordination with one another in group events.

  •  Olympic Status: Rhythmic gymnastics has been an Olympic sport since 1984 for individuals and since 1996 for groups, highlighting its prominence on the international stage.

  •  Judging Criteria: Routines are evaluated based on difficulty, execution, and artistry, with judges looking for precision in movements and creativity in choreography.

  • These levels focus on skill development, with each level building on the previous one. Athletes learn essential techniques, choreography, and apparatus handling.

  • The emphasis is on developing foundational skills, flexibility, and strength, while preparing for future competitive opportunities.

  • The Xcel program offers an alternative competitive pathway, allowing gymnasts to participate in competitions with varied requirements and routines.

  • This program is designed to provide flexibility in training and competition, catering to different commitment levels and goals of athletes.
